FAQs
What documents do i need?
Bank account:
A copy of your bank statement of the last 6 months (paper of PDF)
A copy of your latest tax return + translation into Spanish.
A copy of your latest annual statement or annual report (in the case of a company)
A copy of the notary's invoice + translation into Spanish
Your cedula
Explanation:
Due to KYC and anti-money laundering regulations, the bank often asks for proof that you have obtained your money honestly in order to open an account without limits. For example, if you have sold your house, you can ask the notary to have the settlement statement signed by an authorized notary with a blue pen and stamped with the office stamp. You can then take this document to the court to have it apostilled, so that you have a legal document that is accepted.
Driver's licence:
Your driver's licence
Your international driver's license
Explanation:
With your current driver's license, you can already drive in Paraguay, for example, to rent a car. We do recommend to obtain for an international driver's licence from your local authorities.
To apply for your Paraguayan driver's license, you only need your cedula. This is Paraguay's identity card.
What to do before departure?
Points to note:
Make sure you have deregistered from the Municipal Personal Records Database.
Ensure that contracts such as health insurance or public services have been terminated.
Check that there are no outstanding tax assessments with the Tax and Customs Administration.
Before you leave, make sure you have enough cash with you so that you can always exchange cash locally if your card doesn't work.
Bank cards from various local banks do not work in Paraguay. Open an account with a bank that is supported in Paraguay, such as Revolut bank, Wise, or credit cards.
Applying for a Certificate of Good Conduct can take several weeks before it is delivered. So be sure to apply for it well in advance of your departure.
Do you need a visa for Paraguay?
For Paraguay, you do not need a visa for stays shorter than 90 days.
For example, there are people who have already settled everything in the Netherlands and want to come to Paraguay with a one-way ticket.
This is not recommended if you still need to apply for your temporary residence permit. An observant airport employee may notice that you are traveling to a country that requires a visa. They may then ask you to prove that you will be leaving the country again within 90 days.
There are websites where you can create fake tickets, but we strongly advise against this! Real tickets have a unique reservation number.
You may want to consider booking a Flex Ticket with KLM. If you cancel, you will only pay an administration fee, but you will receive a full refund.
